Dakar Rally 2017. Day 1. Asuncion, Paraguay - Resistencia, Argentina. RoboForex Stage

At 10:45, local time the gates were lifted and the Dessert Warrior Racing vehicle rocketed into the wild. The Day 1 of the Dakar consisted of a special and liaison stages. Special stage was thought to be the most difficult of the two due to extremely harsh conditions and loose and muddy surface of the track. The team started exceptionally well, however on the 13th kilometer the vehicle experienced certain technical difficulties with the turbo pressure. After the quick check, it turned out that the malfunction occurred as a result of a loose hose and the pilots decided to continue with finishing the stage, since the power of the car was limited but not critical. The most difficult test came when the team approached an especially muddy portion of the road and the vehicle got trapped. With the help of the other competitors the car was toed back on track and continued the rally, showing decent time, just 19 minutes behind the first place. It must be said that this season in South America demonstrated abnormal levels of heat with temperatures rising to 40 degrees and above.

The car then was quickly fixed by the team’s mechanics and the 344 km liaison stage followed right after, where the team had to get safe to the bivouac to get some rest before the next day.

Today the second stage will begin, following the route from Resistencia to San Miguel De Tucuman, Argentina.
